Hope Arellano

I truly enjoyed photographing Hope for the cover and editorial in EQ Living. What surprised me was how down to earth and easy-going Hope was. Being a polo player and competing at the highest levels in men’s and women’s competitive polo at 19, Hope is a natural in front of a zoom lens.

We had a very tight schedule and were shooting in the middle of the day on a polo field where lighting and heat were a challenge.   We wanted to capture a cover and several images to help tell Hope’s amazing story.

Many times, shooting for editorial clients or when piggybacking on video shoots where I’m shooting in tandem to a motion shoot, it’s just me on the stills end directing, lighting, and working hard to ensure the talent on set is happy and genuine. Hope made it easy and was happy to try any of my ideas. She took direction incredibly well and was very authentic. When Hope let her hair down and changed from her polo attire to casual wardrobe, I was impressed by how simply elegant she was in front of the camera.

My make-up artist, Leslie Munsell from Beauty for Real, deserves Kudos for not only doing an amazing job with make-up in the sweltering heat, but also lending a hand from time to time holding a reflector, camera bag, or jumping in with an always fun and disarming quip. I can’t thank Les enough for her constant support throughout our years of working together.
